Jack - 2361

Officially named Jumpin' Jack Flash, Jack is a 1 year old tri-color Basset who has been neutered, is up on all of his shots and faithfully takes his dewormer on the first of every month. Jack was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Disease, but is doing great now that he's on his prescription food and medication. Because his first year was such a rough one and his IBD was causing him to literally be starving to death - even though he ate like a horse - he is a stinker when it comes to food. He gets scolded for trying to get in the garbage sometimes and will gobble up anything that hits the floor - whether it's good for him or not. He's also a classic Basset - and exhibits 'selective listening' when it suits him or he gets a good scent and decides he would rather follow that. Jack does take Tylan Powder and Prednisone with each meal. He's still a little underweight but we're working hard to gain the 8-10 pounds the vet recommends. He has enough energy though - and routinely does his "Flash Gordon" imitation, streaking from one end of the house to the other - until he collapses in to a heap on to his pillow. He also must eat the Hills ZD Ultra dog food - which can be purchased with a prescription at PetSmart or directly from the vet. Jack loves fuzzy toys with squeakers (I can't stress this enough), riding in the car and taking walks. He's really very good about not jumping on the sofa or bed and prefers his favorite pillow in his corner. He'll never be one of those Bassets with their tummies almost dragging on the ground - lean and sleek - that's Jack. He's excellent with little kids - we have nieces that are 7 and 2 - and he will let them hug him and play with his ears - but be a little careful when there is food around as he has been known to snatch it right out of little hands that happen to be mouth level. He's lived with a cat his whole life and other than sometimes mistaking her for a toy ( or his best friend) he's good as gold with her. Jack regularly has play dates with a dachshund in the family, and gets along well with my son's yellow lab, and I think would be in heaven with another dog as a companion. He might be a little weird but he also loves going to visit his vet ( I think he has a little crush on her ) and going to get a bath. We've been cleaning his ears since the day he came home so he's absolutely willing to sit and have that done.
